Many vehicles now come with a key fob, which is a keyless entry or alarm keypad. The fob keypads are made so that you may open the key fob to change the battery or if the keypad needs maintenance. Opening the key fob only takes a few minutes.

Press the small silver button on the keypad to release the key if you have a key integrated fob. If you do not have a key integrated fob, you may skip this step.

Remove the key fob from your keychain. Removing the keypad from your keychain will provide better access to opening the fob.

Locate the small crack along the keypad. Some key fobs may open at the top where the keypad connects to your keychain; others may open along the side. You will be able to see one spot in particular that has a wider gap then the rest of the keypad.

Insert a flathead screwdriver into the small gap and push the two sides apart. Gently remove the cover. The keypad cover will separate into two pieces.

Line the two sides up and press them together until they snap back into place to close the key fob.
