Eyelashes continuously fall out and are replaced with new lashes, but as a person gets older eyelash growth slows. Also, some people naturally have thinner and/or shorter eyelashes than others and desire to grow longer, thicker lashes but don't have the money to spend on expensive eyelash treatments. However, there are some natural remedies that may help eyelash growth.
Provide the body with proper nourishment, hydration and sleep for a healthy well-being. A multivitamin, proper nutrition, eight hours of sleep and at least eight glasses of water a day will give the body the necessary ingredients for its best performance.
Eat foods that are high in the protein keratin and other essential nutrients as well as and vegetable and fish oils. Such foods include tuna, salmon, oyster, legumes, nuts, meats, eggs, dairy, orange and yellow colored fruits and vegetables, citrus fruits, rose hips and seeds. Take a complete multivitamin that includes vitamins C, E, B complex, magnesium, zinc and beta-carotene.
Lubricate the eyelashes, as this will keep them healthier and promote growth. Some appropriate lubricants are olive oil, petroleum jelly or vitamin E oil. Apply one of these lubricants every night and wash off each morning. Try alternating the lubricants to see which one works best for keeping the eyelashes from becoming dry and brittle.
Brush the eyelashes daily because this will help to keep the lashes healthy and stimulate growth. Brushing the hair can help to keep it healthy by stimulating the scalp and distributing natural oils throughout the hair: this equally works on the eyelashes. Brush the eyelashes every night before applying the lubricant. Always use a clean eyelash brush.
