While it is common for women to want to make their eyelashes look longer and more defined using false eyelashes, mascara and eyelash curlers, it is also possible that one's eyelashes are too long. Eyelashes that are too long can stick together when blinking, obstruct vision or look unattractive. Some men find that their long eyelashes give them a feminine look and that shortening the lashes can help create a more masculine appearance. Luckily, there is a fairly simple technique for shortening eyelashes that can help solve the issues associated with lashes that are too long.

Find a room that is well-lit and has a place for you to sit. While trimming your eyelashes, it is important to have ample lighting and a seat to keep you steady so that you don't make any mistakes.

Set the mirror down on a flat surface, tilted slightly upward. Make sure the mirror is at eye level and that you do not try to hold the mirror while trimming your lashes.

Move your face within six inches of the mirror and determine how much length you would like to remove from your lashes. The point is to shorten your lashes, but trimming them too much can make your eyes look unnatural.

Cut your eyelashes with the cuticle scissors, keeping your eyes open, and beginning with the side of your lashes that is closest to your nose. Gradually trimming them rather than taking all of the length off at once will help you avoid making them too short.

Use the mirror to look at your eyelashes from a variety angles once you have finished trimming both eyes in order to ensure that the lashes on each eye are the same length.
