How to Make New Hairstyles

By Courtney Clark

Hairstyles take a while to perfect and even longer to become popular with the public. If you create your own hairstyle, not only will compliments on your hair mean more, but your hairstyle is sure to be unique for a long time to come. Everybody has different lengths and textures of hair, which makes it hard to copy popular hairstyles. A simple way to solve this problem is to create your own unique hairstyles designed specifically for you.

Step 1

Choose an existing hairstyle and create a never-before-seen variation of it. For instance, we've all seen a single braid and two braids. Try three braids.

Step 2

Combine several existing hairstyles. A side ponytail can be turned into a side bun. A slight bouffant at the crown of the head (refer to image in References) can be combined with a braid coming down the nape of the neck.

Step 3

Move the hairstyle to a different area of the head. Instead of forming a bun at the back of your head, form it on the top of your head.

Step 4

Replace hair accessories with clever hair placement. Instead of using a hair tie to pull back your hair, wrap a piece of hair around the ponytail to secure it. Instead of wearing a tiara, braid a section of your hair and wrap it around your head like a crown.
