How to Make Butter-free Toasted Pecans

By LeafTV Contributor

The health benefits of nuts -- especially pecans -- are numerous. Pecans are packed with nutrients, containing over 19 vitamins and minerals, according to the National Pecan Shellers Association. They also contain antioxidants and help lower your cholesterol, both of which can help fight heart disease. But you toss some of those health benefits aside when you make a pecan snack mix featuring butter. Instead, toss the butter, and make a delicious pecan snack that keeps your heart healthy and your taste buds happy.

Pecans make a tasty, heart-healthy snack.

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2

Place pecan halves in colander, and rinse them under cool tap water. Toss them a little to make sure they are all rinsed. Shake out excess water.

Step 3

Pour damp pecans onto a non-stick cookie sheet. You can also line a cookie sheet with non-stick aluminum foil or spray with non-stick spray, if you prefer.

Step 4

Season your pecans, if desired. Sprinkle sea salt over the wet nuts. You can add really any flavoring of your choice, but the sea salt is a nice base seasoning.

Step 5

Toast in oven. The timing will vary, so check them every five minutes or so. It usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 6

Remove from oven, and let cool.
