While faces come in a myriad of shapes, sizes and colors, the shapes of many faces fit into one of just a few basic categories, including round, square, oval and inverted triangle. The square face shape is characterized by wide cheek bones and forehead, as well as a strong jaw line. If you have a square shaped face, you can soften the edges a little in order to create the smoother, more rounded appearance of an oval.
Things You'll Need
Wear sunglasses that feature circular, oval or curvy shaped frames.
Wear a hairstyle that features wispy bangs and rounded, wispy ends to soften the lines of the square face.
Opt for layered or angled haircuts, like styles with layered ends or side-swept bangs. These types of cuts will make your face appear to have a more rounded shape.
Tweeze or wax your eyebrows to create rounded arches rather than angular or straight brows.
Apply blush to the lower part of the “apples” of your cheeks, sweeping upward toward your ears in a “U”-shaped stroke. If you need to determine where the apples of your cheeks are, smile while looking at a mirror. The roundest, plumpest parts of your cheeks are usually referred to as apples.
