Surfer hair isn't just one type of hairstyle. In fact, it can be one of many different styles of haircuts, from longer, messy looks to cleaner, wavy locks. For guys, though, each surfer hairstyle has several elements in common. Follow these steps and you could have cool surfer hair.
Don't cut your hair. The first thing you need to do to get a surfer look is to have longer hair. If you have short hair, let it grow out. If you have longer hair, let it grow out to chin length.
Lighten your hair. Surfers also have a sun-bleached look, so to get surfer hair you may need to dye it. An easy way to lighten your hair for a natural look is to use chamomile tea. Steep a large mug of chamomile tea and pour the mug into the spray bottle after it has cooled off.
Spray your hair with the chamomile tea. Hold the bottle about 6 inches from your head and spray thoroughly.
Use a blow dryer to dry your hair completely. If it's a sunny day, you can forgo the blow dryer and sun-dry your hair naturally.
Rinse the tea out of your hair with a shower.
Repeat Steps 4 and 5 two to three times a week until your hair is grown out to your desired length or you have achieved the lightness of the hair that you want.
Find a picture on the Internet of a style of hair that you want yours to emulate. Be realistic--for example, if you have wavy hair, find a picture of someone with wavy hair.
Take the picture to a stylist and have her style your hair to resemble the picture.
To maintain your surfer hair, use styling gel regularly after your shower, then tousle your hair with a towel to give it a fresh-out-of-the-water look.
