Many beverages are available around the world, and everyone has favorites that appeal to them above others. According to National Geographic, six drinks changed history and are still favorites found all over the world today. Of those drinks, five are favorites of women, including tea, coffee, wine, spirits and soft drinks.
Tea
Tea is a very popular drink with women, and it is the most popular beverage in the world. It has antioxidants that are good for your health, lowering risk of heart disease and cancer and protecting bones. Tea comes in all flavors, and can be served hot or cold. The three basic types of tea are black, green and oolong. Tea can be prepared from loose leaves, teabags, or commercially prepared instant tea.
Coffee
Over half of Americans over 18 drink coffee every morning and many others drink coffee occasionally. Of the women who drink coffee, the average is 1.4 cups of coffee per day, according to CoffeeResearch.org. Some drink it black, others add cream or sweetener, and the growing trend is in consuming specialty espresso drinks including latte, cappuccino and mocha. The caffeine helps women feel alert and relaxed at the same time.
Wine
Women all over the world enjoy a glass of wine with dinner or to help them relax. Wine tasting is a popular activity among women, who enjoy all types, including red, white, rose, sparkling, dessert, sweet, sake, fruit and nonalcoholic wines. Compounds such as antioxidants and polyphenols that are in wine show health benefits for women who drink moderately, and a chemical in red wine called resveratrol protects the heart.
Spirits
Many women like mixed drinks made with one or more types of spirits combined with other beverages. One of the most popular spirits for women is vodka, with a colorless and odorless quality that allows it to blend well with other beverages. Vodka is made in a variety of flavors or used plain to make popular drinks for women, including the Vodka Martini, Screwdriver, Cosmopolitan, Long Island Ice Tea, Blue Hawaiian, Chi Chi, Harvey Wallbanger, Bloody Mary, Kamikaze, Sex on the Beach and Lemonade Vodka.
Soft Drinks
Although they are not considered healthy, soft drinks are a favorite drink for women who like the sweet flavor and the caffeine boost they offer. Beverage World ranks many soft drink companies in the top 50 North American beverage distributors, including the number one company, Coca-Cola and the number four company, PepsiCo.
