Homemade tortillas, while a bit complex to make, add a delicious and authentic touch to any meal. Once homemade tortillas cool down after they are made, they are a little bit more difficult to store than store-bought tortillas because they crack easier and are less moist. There is a very simple trick you can do while storing homemade tortillas to ensure that they stay soft and flexible.
Keep a plastic storage bag close by as you are finishing the cooking process of the tortillas.
Transfer the homemade tortillas into the plastic storage bag while they are still warm.
Seal the bag. The steam will keep the tortillas soft and flexible.
Allow the tortillas to cool completely inside the bag. The tortillas should be stored at room temperature and will stay fresh for up to a week.
