Nylon is a material known for its strength and durability, which makes it ideal for purses, backpacks, laundry bags and reusable grocery sacks. Cleaning your nylon bag once or twice a month will add years to its life by keeping dirt and grime from accumulating. Follow these simple steps to keep your bags resilient and new-looking.

Remove all items from your nylon bag, and unzip any compartments.

Fill a sink or laundry basin with warm water and a small amount of mild laundry liquid detergent. Swish the water with your hand to create suds. Submerge your nylon bag in the water. Ensure that the entire bag is drenched with the soapy water. Allow the bag to remain in the cleaning mixture for one hour.

Remove the bag from the water and rub it with a damp cloth. Scrub any stains with an old toothbrush. Drain the soapy water from the sink or basin.

Fill the sink or basin with warm water, and rinse the bag thoroughly. Drain the water and shake the bag upside down to remove excess moisture. Wipe any inside pockets, outside pouches and the outside of the bag with a clean, dry cloth. Hang up the bag or lay it on a flat surface to finish drying.

Tip

Check for a care label on your bag, and follow the instructions for cleaning if it requires special cleaning products.

Warning

Do not dry your nylon bag in direct sunlight, because the sun's rays can affect the fabric's color.
