Closely cropped, spiked hairstyles look funky and sexy on both men and women. Contrary to popular belief, you can wear your short hair many different ways. Read on for some tips and tricks on how to achieve a trendy, spiky ‘do.

Things You'll Need

Towel-dry your hair after you wash it. Apply a quarter-sized dollop of gel (for a wet look) or a ping-pong-ball-sized puff of mousse to your hair. Work the mousse or gel into the roots first, then use your fingers to apply it to the ends of your hair.

Hold your head upside down while you blow-dry your hair. Use your fingers to gently pull sections of hair out straight. Don’t make it too perfect. The spiked style looks best when it’s a bit messy.

Use your fingers to apply a small amount of hair wax or pomade to the ends of your hair. Pull sections out in chunks for spikes or twist them around your fingers for a funkier style. You’re going for a piece-y, tousled look.

Spray your hair lightly with an aerosol hairspray if the weather’s windy or humid. Hold the hairspray can at least twelve inches from your head and give your hair a quick once-over. This step gives your hair a bit more staying power and hairspray helps prevent your hair from soaking up moisture from the atmosphere, which can cause frizz.

Tips
