How to Slick Hair Back. Maybe you are headed to a 50s themed party, maybe you are auditioning for the movie Grease, or maybe you just want to slick your hair back. With a few quick waves of the comb and a heavy dollop of hair product, you’ll be well on your way to slicking your hair back. Read on to learn more.
Things You'll Need
Wet your hair with water. While your hair shouldn’t be dripping wet, it needs to be well moistened to work with the product.
Run the comb along your hair from front to back. For variations on the style, you can part your hair in the middle or on the side.
Warm-up the product. The most popular old-fashioned hair product for slicking back your hair is Pomade. Popular brand names are Murray’s Pomade and NuNile Pomade. Both products are exceptional. Your grocery store or drug store will also have plenty of other variations of Pomade, which you can purchase. Take a scoop of Pomade about the size of a dollar coin and begin to rub it in your hands. Heating the product makes it easier to work in and slick back your hair.
Apply product to your hair. Since your hair is in essence already back, work the product in by slicking it over the top.
Re-comb your hair in the same manner you did before. This will re-establish the shape of the look in case your hair was mussed in any way while applying the product.
Spray your hair with hair spray. This will help the look hold as you move around throughout the day.
If you have particularly curly hair, you will need to straighten it first either with a relaxer or the good old flattening iron.
In order to “re-do” your hair throughout the day, simply reapply a little water and then comb it back. You’ll be playing Danny Zuko in Grease in no time.
