If you want to spruce up your regular bath water, try adding a moisturizing ingredient to soften dry skin. Before heading to the drug store to buy bath oils, look around your house — you probably have a moisturizing bath ingredient already in your kitchen or bathroom. Oats, honey, olive oil or baby oil can be added individually to your bath water to make your skin smooth, soft and hydrated.

Option 1

Add 1 cup of plain oats to the bath water as the tub is filling up. Soak for 30 minutes. The oats will not only soften and moisturize your skin but cleanse it as well.

Option 2

Pour ½ cup of pure honey into the bath water. Honey is a natural moisturizer and humectant, so it helps to attract and lock in moisture.

Option 3

Mix ¼ cup of olive oil into your bath water. The vitamins, nutrients, fats and antioxidants in olive oil will moisturize and soften your skin.

Option 4

Pour ¼ cup of baby oil into the bath water. Baby oil consists primarily of mineral oil, which creates a protective barrier on the skin to help it retain moisture.

Tip

Use warm water when mixing a moisturizing agent into your bath water. Cool water doesn’t allow the ingredients to properly dissolve.
