How to Make Hunch Punch

There are as many ways to make hunch punch as there are people willing to drink it. Whether you call it jungle juice, spodie, purple death, harry buffalo or wapatoola, hunch punch contains two primary ingredients -- grain-based alcohol and fruit juice. Time, availability of ingredients and your budget may determine whether you go with a minimalist or extravagant version. Whichever one you choose, enjoy it in moderation.


Basic Hunch Punch


Step 1

Empty a bottle of Everclear grain alcohol into a large cooler. Use a single 750-milliliter bottle if you're preparing hunch punch for a small group. Use additional bottles for larger crowds.


Step 2

Add 1 gallon of fruit punch for every 750-milliliter bottle of Everclear. Use ready-made fruit punch, a combination of your favorite juices, or punch prepared from concentrate or powdered packets.


Step 3

Stir the punch thoroughly with a long-handled spoon. Add ice, if you like, and serve.

More Elaborate Hunch Punch


Step 4

Pour prepared fruit punch into a cooler, using 3 gallons of punch if you're using a five-gallon cooler. Stir in two types of fruit juice, such as pineapple or orange juice, using 16 ounces of each for every 3 gallons of punch.


Step 5

Add two types of clear soda, such as lemon-lime soda and ginger ale. Use about 8 cups of each for every 3 gallons of fruit punch.


Step 6

Pour Everclear alcohol and vodka into the mixture. Plan on a 750-milliliter bottle of each for a hunch punch containing 3 gallons of fruit punch.


Step 7

Stir the punch with a long-handled spoon. Put the cooler's lid in place and serve the hunch punch over ice.
