Hunch punch -- whether you know it as jungle juice, spodie, purple death, hairy buffalo, or wapatoola, it's all basically the same; an easy to make alcoholic punch that guarantees a good time.
There are many variations of hunch punch, but all versions contain two main ingredients: grain alcohol and fruit juice. Time, available ingredients, and budget are three factors to consider when deciding between an extravagant or simple recipe. Whatever you decide, remember, always party and play safely.
Basic Hunch Punch
Empty an entire bottle of Everclear grain alcohol into a large cooler. Use a single 750-milliliter bottle if you're preparing hunch punch for a small group. Use additional bottles for larger crowds.
Add 1 gallon of fruit punch for every 750-milliliter bottle of Everclear. Use ready-made fruit punch, a combination of your favorite juices, punch prepared from concentrate, or powdered juice packets.
Stir the punch thoroughly with a long-handled spoon. Add ice, if you like, and serve.
More Elaborate Hunch Punch
Pour prepared fruit punch into a cooler-- 3 gallons of juice for a 5 lb cooler. Stir in two types of fruit juice, such as pineapple juice and orange juice. Use 16 ounces of each juice for every 3 gallons of punch.
Add two types of clear soda, such as lemon-lime soda and ginger ale. Use about 8 cups of each type for every 3 gallons of fruit punch.
Pour Everclear and vodka into the mixture. Plan on a 750-milliliter bottle of each alcohol for a hunch punch containing 3 gallons of fruit punch.
Stir the punch with a long-handled spoon, and serve over ice.
