Liquid eyeliner creates a smooth, precise look you can’t achieve with any other eyeliner. A waterproof liner will stay immobile against sweat, humidity and rain—but also against most cleansers. Not all cleansers are fully equipped to remove waterproof eyeliner, but there are several inexpensive brands on the market that can remove both waterproof eyeliner and mascara. With the right cleanser and a little more time on your makeup removal routine, you can actually have your cake and eat it too.

Things You'll Need

Saturate a cotton ball or pad with a makeup solvent specifically formulated for eye makeup, such as Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover.

Gently drag the pad across your closed top lid to dissolve the eyeliner. Turn the cotton pad over and use the clean side after two or three swipes.

Repeat until all traces of eyeliner are gone from the eyelid. Do the same with the other eye.

Remove the liquid liner on the bottom lid with a Q-tip. Wet it with eye makeup remover and gently swipe along the line of makeup. Be careful to stay clear of the eye.

Repeat with freshly saturated Q-tips until all traces of makeup are gone.

  • Remove your waterproof makeup before washing the rest of your face. Use a gentle face cleanser to help remove any final traces of makeup that may have been rubbed into the outer eye area.
