Dark upper lips can be a result of common female grooming practices like waxing or threading the upper lip, or over-bleaching facial hair. Drinking alcohol or smoking can also cause a reaction, making the skin darker than usual. There are a few home remedies to lighten the pigmentation.
Lime and Lemon Juice
Lime and lemon juice act as natural bleaching agents. They may make skin and hair a few shades lighter when applied directly. Do a patch test first to make sure the effects will not be too dramatic for your skin tone—apply a bit of lime or lemon juice to your arm or other area of your body for 15 minutes, then rinse off with water. If the results are fine, repeat on your upper lip.
Cucumber juice acts as a soothing agent for skin that's been over-bleached, and it can help lighten the darker pigmentation on the upper lip. For maximum effect, try combining it with a little bit of lime juice and apply directly to the upper lip. Leave it on 15 minutes and then rinse off with water.
Lemon Juice and Honey
Honey isn't a bleaching agent, but it can help reduce the appearance of scars and other imperfections. Take a little bit of lemon juice and mix it with an equal amount of honey. Apply directly to the upper lip and wait for 15 minutes, then wash off with warm water.
To make a skin-lightening face mask, you need two teaspoons of chickpea flour, a pinch of turmeric, a few drops of lemon juice, and a few drops of milk cream. Chickpea flour, lemon juice and turmeric all have natural bleaching properties, while the milk cream leaves skin silky smooth. Mix these ingredients together and apply to the upper lip. Let the mask dry, then rinse off with warm water.
