Bags under the eyes can give you a tired appearance or make you appear older. But don't worry quite yet! There are a variety of methods for getting rid of those pesky bags ranging from do-it-yourself home remedies to surgery. The cost of removing bags varies greatly depending on the type of method used to remove them. Here are the options!

Home Remedies

There are many home remedies that people use to treat bags under the eyes. One of the most popular is using cold compresses. To apply a cold compress, you can choose from a range of cold household items that fit easily over the eye. Cucumbers and refrigerated spoons are two frequently chosen items. With this method, the only cost you incur is the cost of the item you are using. In most places, you can purchase a cucumber for less than one dollar. Some people may choose to purchase a cooling eye mask, which costs between 10 and 20 dollars. The results of using cold compresses typically only last a few hours, and compresses must be used once or twice daily to really see any difference at all.

Another popular do-it-yourself way to remove under eye bags is by using frozen green tea bags. In addition to acting as a cold compress, green tea naturally contains an anti-inflammatory which will help decrease the appearance of bags. You can purchase a box of green tea bags for between 6 dollars and 10 dollars. Apply tea bags once daily and the effects last for a few hours.

Creams

There are a variety of cosmetic creams on the market that treat under eye bags. These creams can range in price from less than 15 dollars to 150 dollars. Some people report using hemorrhoid cream under the eyes to reduce the appearance of bags. You can purchase most hemorrhoid creams for less than 10 dollars, but hemorrhoid cream makers have not endorsed the use of these treatments as remedies for under eye bags.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, Restylane and Botox, can be effective treatments for bags under the eyes. Dermal fillers are injected into the skin using a syringe. Prices for these treatments can vary based on your geographic location, but on average cost around 950 dollars. The results of cosmetic fillers can last from six months to a year.

Surgery

An eye lift, or blepharoplasty, is the only permanent way to remove bags under the eyes. In a blepharoplasty, excess fat and skin are removed from the lower eyelid area to reduce under eye bags. The average cost of a blepharoplasty is around 4,000 dollars, but prices range between 2,000 to 7,000 dollars depending on physician and geographic location, but you shouldn't choose a physician to perform surgery or inject dermal fillers based on price alone. While uncommon, these procedures do carry a risk of side effects. It is important that those performing these procedures be well qualified.

Natural Methods

There are natural, inexpensive ways to reduce under eye bags through lifestyle changes. Being sure to get enough sleep and elevating your head on a pillow while asleep may reduce the appearance of bags. Wearing sunglasses and sunscreen will help protect damage from the sun to the skin around the eye. Smoking, alcohol and poor diet can all contribute to skin damage; limiting smoking and alcohol and eating properly may help improve the skin's appearance.
