Spirulina is full of amazing health benefits, including an incredible amount of protein and vitamins A, K and iron. It has 600% more protein than tofu! Adding this simple super food to your diet can do wonders for your cardiovascular system, nervous system, skin and weight maintenance. It has a distinct 'green/healthy' flavor - so add a little at a time until you get comfortable with it. This smoothie is the perfect "Intro To Spirulina" because the apple, kiwi and banana do a great job at somewhat masking the flavor.
Here's how it's done:
- 1 apple
- 1 kiwi
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp organic Greek or coconut yogurt
- 1 tsp spirulina
- Raspberries, to garnish
- Mint leaves, to garnish
- Halved coconut, to serve
- Chop the apple (skin on) and kiwi, then place into a bag and freeze for at least 3 hours
- In a high-speed blender, add: frozen apple and kiwi, banana, yogurt and spirulina
- Pour smoothie into a coconut (for added health benefits--scrape the coconut meat as you eat!) and top with your favorite garnishes
