There are millions of strict smoothie recipes, but sometimes you have to make due with what's on-hand. And that's ok, because there is a very specific smoothie formula you can follow to get it right every time. As long as you've got liquid, greens, frozen fruit and a few super foods to blend together - you've got tomorrow morning's smoothie recipe.
Here's how it's done:
1. Choose your base
*Add 1/2 to 3/4 cups of liquid into your blender, we love Silk Almond Milk, but you can use what ever nut milk or coconut water you like.
2. Add frozen bananas or avocado
*Peel ripe bananas then cut into 1-2" cubes and freeze overnight. Add 2/3 banana or 1/4 avocado to the blender.
3. Add your greens
*Add 1 large handful of kale and 1 large handful of spinach (make sure you have rinsed them well).
4. Choose your fruit
*Using frozen or fresh (or both), add your favorite berries to the blender. We like incorporating three types - 1/4 of each, 3/4 total.
5. Add your superfoods
*Add 1/3 tablespoon of either chia seeds, cacao, acai or maca. Chia seeds have a neutral taste, if you choose one of the others make sure your fruits will compliment them. (Tip: Acai goes well with blueberries, banana and mango. Cacao goes well with banana, raspberries and coconut meat)
BONUS TIP: If you like your smoothies with an extra cool crunch, add a couple ice cubes right at the end and blend for another few seconds
