When shaving is not an option, or it's too painful to think about, then consider a Brazilian bikini wax. These famous waxes were made popular in the '80s and still continue to go strong, especially during swimsuit season. Women typically visit a salon that specializes in Brazilian waxing; however, there are kits available to purchase to attempt the art yourself. Before making the appointment or purchasing the kit, make sure you know what to expect before and after.
What is Left?
A Brazilian wax will remove as much as you want; however, there are a variety of options you can choose from to design in that region. According to Hair Chick, most women leave a small patch of hair in the shape of a landing strip, heart, triangle or another shape. You can bare it all and have a smooth nether region, if you prefer.
Skin Care
First time waxers are in for a bit of post-wax maintenance. Newly waxed skin, like eyebrows and legs, may react to the wax or the ripping and pulling of the skin to remove the hair. To keep your skin down there looking fabulous, exfoliate three days after you wax with a sea salt scrub. This will keep the skin free from dead skin cells and help prevent ingrown hair – which can be painful. Even though you want to slip into that new bikini, wait for 24 hours to prevent skin irritation from pool chemicals.
Soreness, Redness and Irritation
If you come home and have a problem walking because your skin is too sore, then apply a cold compress to the area. Skin may be sensitive to the wax or the removal process, so apply a thick layer of antibiotic cream to the area, without underwear on, at night. You can also take an oral pain reliever to help reduce swelling. Once the skin settles, you may experience a need to itch the area – this is completely normal and will go away after two or three days; however, you can maintain the area by applying a moisturizer or aloe vera gel to help prevent the need to scratch.
When Will It Grow Back?
Most people will experience a fine hair regrowth within a few weeks of the appointment, according to Best Waxing Center. You will start to see the rest of the regrowth in four to six weeks, which is the recommended time to make another appointment.
