Dreadlocks are made simply by matting the hair. However, there is an art to doing so; leaving hair unwashed and unkempt will usually not give you the look you’re after. Many people feel impatient when growing their dreadlocks out, as it takes your hair a bit longer to grow when it is growing in a different pattern. There are a few things you can do to try to make your dreads grow a bit more quickly.
Scalp massage stimulates the blood flow in the scalp, which in turn stimulates the growth of your hair. Massage your scalp every day or have a friend or family member do it for you. Make sure you get all of your scalp during the massage in order to get the maximum benefits out of it. You can also stimulate hair follicles by brushing your scalp with a dreadlock pick.
Vitamins and supplements can make hair grow a little bit faster than without them. Hair Boutique recommends a wide array of vitamins, including Vitamins B-complex, C and E, as well as flaxseed oil. These vitamins can help stimulate your hair growth; however, it is important to talk to your doctor before beginning a vitamin regimen to make sure it meshes with your current health. Your doctor may even have more recommendations to get your dreads longer quicker.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important for many reasons, but it will also facilitate the growth of dreadlocks. Getting lots of rest allows the hair to grow during your sleep, while staying away from foods with lots of fat and sugar helps keep hair growing quickly. Cutting out smoking can also make your dreads grow quicker.
Eating a diet that is high in protein can help hair grow faster, because hair is protein. This includes eating more meat, beans, fish and cheeses, all of which are high in protein. Dread Head Headquarters recommends a raw diet, claiming that eating raw food eliminates toxins from the body and allows hair to grow much quicker.
