Costumes and music can only go so far. Whatever the theme, it is the smaller details that will really help deliver a successful themed party or event. Whether it's the 80s club scene, "Miami Vice" feel, or new wave teen pop culture, providing drinks and cocktails reminiscent of the times will ensure your party is a hit. Fruity, colorful drinks will be a great accompaniment to the big hair and loud disco music.

Electric Lemonade

Electric lemonade is a bright, sweet and fruity drink that packs a punch. To make an electric lemonade, mix three parts vodka, one part blue curacao and four parts sour mix. Add to a tall glass filled with ice and top up with lemonade. Use a lemon wedge to garnish.

Sangria

There are many sangria recipes, some basic, and some fairly complex. Experimenting with different ingredients and quantities is important to produce a drink that suits your taste. A pitcher of sangria can be made by combining half a cup of brandy, one-fourth cup of lemon juice, one-third cup of concentrated lemonade, one-third cup of orange juice, one 750-milliliter bottle of red wine, half a cup of triple sec and one-fourth cup of sugar (or to taste). Add a sliced lemon, lime and orange and a handful of maraschino cherries. Leave the mixture to infuse overnight in the refrigerator. To add an 80s twist to this popular drink, add club soda to make a "fizzy sangria."

Cranberry-Apple Spritzer

For the more sophisticated 80s partygoer, the cranberry-apple spritzer is a good choice. This spritzer is light and refreshing and simple to make. Mix two parts dry white wine with one part cranberry-apple juice drink and one part sparkling water. This drink is usually served over ice with an apple slice garnish.

Malibu Bay Breeze

Malibu bay breeze is a simple Caribbean-inspired cocktail made with two parts coconut rum, four parts pineapple juice and a dash of cranberry juice. It is commonly served in a tall glass over ice. The Malibu bay breeze is a bright and fruity drink, perfect for an 80s-themed party.

Non-Alcoholic Drinks

It is important at any party to provide non-alcoholic drinks. Make sure there is adequate supply of soft drinks and fruit juices, and why not make a non-alcoholic punch to spice things up for the non-drinkers and drivers at the party? To make a sparkling punch, mix together one can of thawed frozen lemonade concentrate, 1 liter of club soda, 1.5 liters of sparkling apple cider, two sliced lemons, three sliced oranges and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Serve with ice.
