Oatmeal doesn't just warrant a place on the breakfast table, it also deserves a place next to the bathroom sink. Oatmeal skin care products are used to cleanse, exfoliate, smooth, and soften skin. They are also used to treat acne.

Over 20 million people in the United States suffer from acne. Acne is the result of genetics and diet. Treatments include prescription medications, over the counter creams, and alternative treatments including oatmeal.

Oatmeal acts as an astringent, and it draws out and absorbs oils from the skin. It helps rid the skin of impurities and keeps the skin clean, clear and blemish-free.

Oatmeal contains terpinen-4-ol, an anti-microbial ingredient. Oatmeal is beneficial when made into a mask and applied to the face. Homemade masks are made by mixing dry oatmeal with water, and should be left on the face for 15 minutes before rinsing with water.

High quality natural oatmeal soaps help balance facial oils and work well in treating acne. These soaps clean without harsh chemicals, leave skin hydrated, soothe dry skin, and work to clear up blemishes.

Oats have an innate attraction to water. They draw and hold moisture to the skin. Fine ground oatmeal acts as an exfoliant. It will attach to what is irritating the skin and can thus be washed away, helping to guard against and prevent acne.

Oats are a natural skin protectant and beneficial in the treatment of acne. Using oatmeal based products before an acne flare-up can help prevent blemishes, pimples, scars, and acne.
