If your scalp is itchy and you notice white flakes in your hair, dandruff is the likely culprit. This pesky condition can be caused by a scalp that is too dry or a scalp that is too oily. If your scalp is dry, you need to add moisture back into the skin; if it’s too oily, try using witch hazel in moderation to reduce your dandruff.
Fill a clean, empty spray bottle with ½ cup of water. Add ½ cup of witch hazel. Shake up the spray bottle to mix the two ingredients.
Shampoo your hair as usual. For added dandruff control, use a dandruff shampoo in place of your regular shampoo.
Spritz the witch hazel and water mixture all over your scalp. Use your fingers to rub it in. Leave it on your head for a few minutes, then rinse. Condition your hair as usual; rinse and pat your hair dry with a towel.
Moisten a cotton ball with witch hazel for added dandruff control on an oily scalp. Dab the witch hazel onto your scalp every day to help control oil and keep dandruff at bay until the condition clears.
Witch hazel can lead to an oily scalp becoming too dry. Use witch hazel on your scalp daily until the dandruff is gone. Keep the oiliness at bay by using witch hazel just a couple of times a week thereafter so not to cause excessive dryness.
