Angel food cake offers a light, airy alternative to more dense, traditional cakes. You can serve this sweet treat plain, with a simple glaze or dressed up with fruit and whipped topping for a fancier dessert. Whether you made the cake at home or purchased it at the local bakery or supermarket, ensure that you enjoy all of your angel food cake by storing it correctly.

The light texture of a typical angel food cake -- which keeps it from being overly dense or heavy -- makes it more susceptible than other cakes to drying out quickly. This is especially true once you have cut into the cake, leaving more of the interior exposed to the air. To avoid the dried-out, rubberized result of leaving your angel food cake out in the open, wrap the entire cake tightly in plastic wrap.

Store your tightly covered angel food cake in an air-tight container, cake box, pantry or kitchen cupboard for 1 to 2 days. You can keep it for longer -- up to a week -- if you store it, tightly wrapped, in the refrigerator.

Keep both whole or partial angel food cakes, tightly wrapped, in your freezer for 2 to 6 months. For best results, wrap the angel food cake in plastic wrap, and then again in aluminum foil. When you're ready to eat the cake, remove it from the freezer, leave it wrapped and allow it to thaw at room temperature until it's soft and springy.
