Caramel candy, a mixture of ingredients such as cream or milk, butter, caramelized sugar and vanilla, can be quite hard. This can present a problem if you want to eat a piece, but you fear for your teeth and fillings. In addition, if you plan on using the caramels in a recipe, you often have to cut the candy into bits. Fortunately, you can soften hard caramels with a popular household appliance and achieve your purpose.
Unwrap the desired number of caramels and place them on a microwave safe plate.
Place the plate in the microwave and heat it on a high setting for approximately 10 to 15 seconds.
Remove the plate from the microwave and enjoy the softened candy or cut it into bits and use it in a recipe.
Tip
The heating time may be more or less, depending on your particular microwave.
Warning
The caramels may be hot once removed from the microwave. Take care not to burn your mouth.
