The pinto bean is a versatile and common bean in many recipes. One way to cook pinto beans is to first blanch them in boiling water, then microwave them. The pinto bean can be safely microwaved after it has been carefully cleaned and prepped.

The pinto bean is a good source of minerals, vitamins and protein.

Step 1

Search through the beans you want to cook, making sure to remove any small stones, lumps of dirt or blemished beans.

Step 2

Wash the beans thoroughly with warm water.

Step 3

Place the beans in a saucepan, then fill the saucepan with 5 cups of hot water per 1 cup of beans.

Step 4

Boil the water in the saucepan for two minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat, place a cover on it, and then let it stand for one hour.

Step 5

Dump the water from the saucepan into the sink, then transfer the beans to a microwave-safe bowl.

Step 6

Fill the microwave-safe bowl halfway with fresh water.

Step 7

Cook the beans in the microwave for eight to 10 minutes on full power, or until the water boils.

Step 8

Cook the beans in the microwave at 50 percent power for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until the beans are tender.
