Having your hair highlighted by a professional can be expensive. On top of that, the highlights last a long period of time. If you don't like the look, you're stuck with them, until they fade. Instead, you can use Kool-Aid to provide colorful streaks to your hair for less than a dollar. The Kool-Aid also washes out, so there is less of a commitment -- if you find you don't like it.
Mix two packets of unsweetened Kool-Aid in the color of your choice with 1/8 cup of warm water. Stir until the Kool-Aid is completely dissolved.
Separate your hair in to the sections you want to streak with color. If necessary, have a friend or family member help you.
Place a piece of aluminum foil under each section of hair, and brush the Kool-Aid mixture over it. Completely soak the strand of hair with the Kool-Aid. The aluminum foil keeps the Kool-Aid from touching the rest of your hair.
Wrap the aluminum foil around the Kool-Aid soaked hair, and use a hairdryer to heat it up.
Wait 20 minutes for your hair to dry, before rinsing the Kool-Aid out to reveal your new streaks.
Tip
Use a glass or metal bowl when preparing the Kool-Aid mixture. Plastic bowls will stain.
Warning
If you use sweetened Kool-Aid, you may attract insects.
