Sun spots, freckles, birthmarks, and other discolorations can be difficult to cover with makeup; that’s where skin-lightening creams come in. But the brands sold in department stores can be so expensive. Luckily, you can make a DIY version at home with common ingredients from your kitchen.
Things You'll Need
Almonds, lemon juice, and turmeric are some of the most powerful natural skin-lightening ingredients in the world. They can produce results comparable to many chemical creams and have been used for centuries for their natural bleaching and brightening properties. When you combine them with the nourishing and moisturizing properties of yogurt and honey, the end result is a luxuriously rich skin cream that not only lightens, but also improves the overall health and condition of your skin.
Skin-Lightening Cream Recipe
Crush the almonds into a fine powder in a food processor. Be sure not to process them too long or else you’ll end up with almond butter (which is not a bad thing, but not ideal for our purposes here). If you don’t have a food processor, you can find “almond flour” or “almond meal” at most grocery stores.
Combine the almond powder with yogurt, lemon juice, honey, and turmeric. Stir until blended thoroughly.
Apply a small amount of skin-lightening cream every night before bed. At this time, skin goes through a recovery cycle in which hormones are released that increase blood circulation and open pores, making it easier for creams to penetrate and be absorbed. Do not apply during the day—lemon juice can make your skin ultra sensitive to the sun. Expect to see results in 14 days.
- Store the cream in a closed jar in the refrigerator and use within seven days. Make small batches at a time to prevent spoiling.
