How To Make Electric Lemonade

An excellent summer cocktail -- or for making it feel like summer in the dead of winter -- the Electric Lemonade is a bright blue vodka cocktail. It's easy to make --even in large quantities -- so offer up a pitcher of Electric Lemonade at your next party. Electric Lemonades are usually served on the rocks, but you can also blend them. If you like strawberry lemonade, switch the vodka to a strawberry vodka for a strawberry Electric Lemonade.

The electric blue color of an Electric Lemonade cocktail comes from the Blue Curacao, an orange flavored liqueur made with dried orange peels.

  • 2 ounces citrus vodka
  • 1/2 ounce Blue Curacao
  • 2 ounces sour mix
  • Lemon-lime soda
  • 3 lemon slices

If sour mix isn't available for your electric lemonade, substitute by adding 1 ounce of simple syrup, 1 ounce of lemon juice and 1/2 ounce of lime juice to your Electric Lemonade before shaking it up.

Fill a hurricane glass with ice.

Add vodka, Blue Curacao and sour mix to the glass.

Pour the mixture into a cocktail shaker and shake well, about six or seven vigorous shakes.

Pour the drink back into the hurricane glass.

Top the drink with lemon-lime soda.

Garnish with the lemon slices.

Like the strawberry Electric Lemonade mentioned previously, or other versions, you can also mix up a raspberry Electric Lemonade by substituting raspberry vodka. Prefer a sweeter drink? Forego the sour mix and use lemonade instead, or even a flavored lemonade. It won't be as electric blue, but for aesthetic variety, swap out the Blue Curacao for green or orange Curacao. The taste won't change, but the appearance will.
