Blackheads can be a bothersome skin problem for people of all ages and loosening them can be difficult. While squeezing blackheads is unadvised due to the damage it can cause to the skin, it’s hard to resist the urge. Squeezing often makes the problem worse by forcing the blackhead further into the skin. Luckily, some inexpensive home remedies–that don’t involve squeezing–can help remove blackheads safely and effectively.

Things You'll Need

Wash your face using warm water and a gentle exfoliating scrub. The exfoliating scrub will help to remove dead skin cells.

Apply steam to your face to open the pores. You can do this by boiling a pan of water and standing with a towel draped over your head above the steam for 10 to 15 minute until the water has cooled. If you wish, you can add some fragrant herbs to the water such as rosemary or chamomile.

Apply raw egg whites to your face and allow them to dry thoroughly. Egg whites will tighten the pores as they dry, safely forcing the blackheads out.

After 10 to 15 minutes, gently wash your face with a warm, wet washcloth to remove the egg whites.

Warm a small amount of honey in the microwave for ten seconds.

Apply the warm honey to your face an allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes. The honey acts as a natural peel that’s effective in removing blackheads.

Gently wipe away the honey with a soft, wet cloth.

Mix a solution of equal parts baking soda and water to form a thick paste.

Apply the baking soda paste to any remaining blackheads and allow it to dry completely. The baking soda will safely extract the deeper blackheads that the eggs whites and honey may have missed.

Follow up with a cool water wash to tighten the pores.

Now that you’ve loosened and removed the blackheads, establish a good facial cleansing routine to prevent future blackhead outbreaks.
