How to Get Brylcreem Out of Hair

By Kimberly Caines

Brylcreem, is a brand name for a collection of hairstyling products made especially for men. The line of Brylcreem products includes gels, waxes, creams and pastes that promise a flake-free, invisible result. Continuous use of hairstyling products can result in product buildup on your hair. Product buildup can make your hair look lifeless and damaged, and give it a dry, dull and lackluster appearance. To avoid Brylcreem buildup, cleanse your hair with the proper products.

Shampooing your hair helps eliminate Brylcreem buildup.

Step 1

Wash your hair with a purifying shampoo. A purifying shampoo removes all product buildup from your hair while nourishing and strengthening it. Wet your hair with lukewarm water. Apply a quarter-size amount of shampoo to it. Lather the shampoo and massage it into your scalp. Leave the shampoo on your hair for five minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. Repeat the treatment if you have heavy product buildup.

Step 2

Condition your hair with an oil-free conditioner or skip the conditioner completely. If you have long hair, apply the conditioner only to the ends of your hair; avoid getting it on your scalp. Leave the conditioner on your hair for two minutes and rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Step 3

Mix 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar with 1 cup water. Apply the mixture to your hair and rinse it out with cold water. This final rinse helps remove leftover buildup, seals the hair cuticle and adds shine.

Step 4

Dry and style your hair as normal.
