Cooked and strung together, hemp seeds are also a favorite bait among many freshwater fishermen. Hemp seeds are full of essential amino and fatty acids and nutritive minerals and proteins. Routinely adding them to your food is a way to improve your dietary health. Large batches of hemp seeds can be prepared in advance and then used on an as-need basis. Follow these simple cooking steps for preparing hemp seeds for use.

Rinse and clean the hemp seeds in a strainer.
Place the hemp seeds in a pot or bowl, cover them with three or four times the water and allow them to soak for 24 hours. This will help the shells start to split as well as continue to clean any silt. The silt will float to the bottom.
Place hemp seeds and water in a pot or saucepan. Pour the hemp seeds and water slowly into the pot and stop just before the layer of silt starts to pour in. Add one teaspoon of salt per 16 ounces of hemp seeds. Bring the water to a boil.
Reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook the hemp seeds for 20 to 30 minutes, or until all of the seeds have split.
Strain any leftover water and spread the seeds out on wax paper or a towel to cool and dry.
Store hemp seeds in plastic bags or containers in the refrigerator.
Hemp seeds do not necessarily have to be precooked for eating. They can also be ground into a millet or flour consistency for use in cooking.
