How to Convert Men's to Women's Shoe Sizes

By Celeigh O'Neil

Finding shoes that suit your personal style can be challenging, particularly when styles change faster than the seasons. Men's shoes often suit women just as well, but the same shoe may not be available in the women's department. Women can still wear men's shoes – it just takes a bit of math to settle on which size to try on. Convert men's to women's shoe sizes and watch as your shoe-shopping options expand.

Check out the men's shoe section if a brand's shoes run smaller than you're used to.

Step 1

Note the size of the pair of men's shoes that you'd like to convert. This is typically found on the inner or outer sole or the inside of the tongue of the shoe.

Step 2

Add 1.5 to the men's shoe size. If the men's shoe is a size 6, the women's version would be a size 7.5.

Step 3

Visit a shoe retailer to try on the shoe and confirm the sizing, as some manufacturers run smaller or larger than others.
