Over the years our skin darkens, mostly as a result of the sun. Days spent at the beach or outside cause our skin to freckle and spot and these discolorations can be hard to cover with makeup. For this reason, many people wish to lighten their skin. While this can't be done in just two days, it is possible to lighten your skin through the use of natural remedies and creams.

To lighten your skin, you should avoid direct sunlight at all opportunities. You should also make sure that every morning you wear a sunscreen under your makeup. Choose one that is non-oily and at least 30+ SPF. If you must go outside for extended periods, cover up as much skin as possible through the use of hats and long sleeves.

Whitening Cream

Choose a natural plant-based whitening cream from a pharmacy. There are many brands available but try to find the most natural of them all. Also make sure to find one that does not contain hydroquinine as scientists and the FDA have not yet settled on whether this has a direct link to cancer. Ask your pharmacist for help if you aren't sure which one to purchase.

A visit to the dermatologist will be the best way to determine what you should do for your skin. A dermatologist can prescribe you a steroid cream for your face that is very effective in lightening your skin, and similarly might recommend that you book an appointment for a skin peel or laser treatment.

Homemade Treatment

Make a natural face mask treatment out of gram flour, turmeric, lemon juice and milk. Gram flour is made from ground chana dal and is a common ingredient in Indian cooking. This flour, as well as milk and lemon juice, contain natural bleaching agents. To make the mask, combine 2 tbsp. of gram flour and a pinch of tumeric in a small mixing bowl. Stir with a whisk or fork until thoroughly mixed. Then mix in 2 tsp. of milk and three drops of lemon juice. Stir to form a thick paste adding more milk if necessary. Apply the paste directly to your face and throat, or anywhere else on your body that you wish to lighten. Let the mixture sit on the skin for at least 15 minutes and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

General Skin Health

To keep your skin at its healthiest, you should always make sure you drink a lot of water throughout the day. Also make sure to include lots of leafy green vegetables in your diet as well as a healthy balance of fruit and grains and food containing omega 3s. Consider investing in a tablet with fish oil, which helps maintain the skin, hair and nails.
