Many women want smooth, hairless legs. And today, some men may want hairless legs also. While shaving legs is the most common way to remove hair, the hair grows back quickly. Waxing is another common method of hair removal. At-home kits and salons offer waxing. This method keeps legs free of hair longer than shaving. If neither shaving nor waxing appeals to you, there is another way to remove hair from legs.

Wash the legs with soap and water. This opens the follicles.

Apply a depilatory cream or lotion to the legs. Smooth the cream or lotion over the entire leg with your fingers. Depilatory contain chemicals that dissolve the keratin in the hair shaft. This cause the hair to break down.

Wait for the depilatory to take effect. Read the label on the product, and leave the cream or lotion on the legs for the recommended length of time.

Wipe a small area of the leg with a damp cloth to see if the leg hair wipes off. If not, smooth depilatory over this area and leave it on for a few more minutes.

Dampen a wash cloth and use it to wipe off the depilatory. The hair should wipe off along with it.

Tip

Test the depilatory on a small area of the forearm to check for allergic reactions. Wash off the depilatory after 10 minutes. Wait 24 to 48 hours to make sure no rash occurs before applying the depilatory to a larger area of skin.
