8 Ways To Work On Your Beauty Game From The Inside-Out

By Chelsea Becker

Sure, a highlighter or the right concealer can make a difference, but no amount of makeup can truly cover up an unhealthy complexion. Which is why we're all about manifesting beauty from the inside out. Whether that be through eating the right foods, a healthy gut, or hydrating like crazy, we find that these 8 things do much more than any foundation ever could.

Turmeric Booster

According to Erin Stokes, ND, and Medical Director at MegaFood, the Daily Turmeric Nutrient Booster Powder is a must for beauty from the inside out. Why? "The popular anti-inflammatory agent in turmeric plus holy basil leaf bring forth a healthy balance from within," says Dr. Strokes. "And according to a recent study, turmeric can actually lift your mood and improve your memory." We like blending the powder into our daily smoothie!

Getting Enough Sleep

Sleep seems to be the answer for everything—and for good reason! While you sleep, your skin cells turn over, giving light to new, fresh, healthy skin cells. Plus, not getting enough zzz's most definitely shows up on your face (hello, dull skin and eye bags!). If you have trouble nodding off, create a nighttime routine and start this routine with enough time to truly wind down. Turn your phone on Airplane Mode, diffuse lavender essential oil, read a book, and be sure to get in bed at least 8 hours before your alarm rings.

Exercise

Working out a few times a week is a leading component to happiness and confidence, and it's also really helpful for your skin! When you're working out, oxygen is circulating and that leads to toxins being released. Less buildup and toxins make for a happy complexion! Try for 3-4 workouts a week to see results.

Bone Broth

The skin benefits from bone broth (and the collagen it contains) are major! As Sharon Brown, Clincial Nutritionist and founder of Bonafide Provisions tells us, "Oral forms increase the body's natural collagen production, delivering specific amino acids that give you wrinkle-free, firmer skin. Glycine supports detoxification in the body and helps the body assimilate collagen, providing your entire system with a natural kickstart to a radiant complexion. Plus, bone broth is loaded with minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, silicon, sulfur, and phosphorous—nutrients many of us don't get enough of from our regular diet." Try Bonafide's Drinkable Veggies if you aren't into making broth yourself. Added bonus of vegetables which are also amazing at contributing to a healthy, happy complexion.

Antioxidants

These are stellar for keeping you healthy and they're also your BFF when it comes to anti-aging and skin showing wear. Eat foods like blueberries, spinach, açai berries, and dark chocolate (mmm!) for anti-inflammatory benefits.

Good Gut Health

You know the saying, "you are what you eat"? Well, it's true! If your gut is having a hard time digesting and it's full of unhealthy foods, your skin isn't going to look its best. As Erin Stokes, ND, states "the secret to blemish-free skin is good gut health." She recommends taking a daily probiotic for an optimal gut. Her recommendation? MegaFlora® for Women because "This probiotic supports digestive balance as well as urinary tract and vaginal health."

Hydration

It's an obvious point but one too big not to mention. Hydrating from the inside out helps with dry skin, elasticity and overall appearance. If you have a hard time drinking enough water, spruce it up with lemon and cucumber, and eat water-dense foods like cucumber and celery, too.

Avoid Sugar

Artificial sugars can wreck havoc on our skin, and you've probably noticed increased breakouts or redness after going crazy on candy. Sugar can also lead to premature wrinkles since it hurts collagen and elasticity in the skin. Instead, munch on fruit since the sugar isn't as harmful and you get added benefits (like antioxidants and vitamins!).
