Detoxification is a centuries old practice that has been important in general health and religious rituals for thousands of years. Cleansing the body is thought to help eliminate waste and toxic elements from the body's organs and tissues. Doing it the right way involves providing the body with necessary vitamins and nutrients that it needs in order to continue to function properly, while aiding the detoxification process.

How Detoxification Works

Blood is the body's transport system, supplying oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to the other tissues. It also removes dangerous toxins that can cause disease. It is vitally important to cleanse this transport system regularly, just like you would change the oil in your car. When toxins are present in the blood it can become acidic and upset the pH balance which can, in turn, have adverse effects on the body.

Do you need to detox?

Detoxing the body usually involves abstaining from eating certain foods, which are thought to make the toxins accumulate in the body. Dr. Michael Picco, of the Mayo Clinic, argues that these types of diets show no conclusive evidence of providing any health benefit to the body. Instead, he suggests that following a nice simple balanced diet consisting of high-quality protein, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables will allow the body to detoxify itself naturally.

Keeping the Blood Healthy

Although a detox diet may not be the answer for cleansing the blood, proper supplementation may help keep the blood clean and the body healthy. Use a supplement consisting of Vitamins B12, A, C, and K, which are necessary for helping the blood detoxify naturally. B12 is essential in the formation of new blood cells and helps provide necessary energy to the body. Vitamins A and C are necessary for immune system and antioxidant support. Vitamin K plays a significant role in proper kidney function. In addition to these, there are other vitally important nutrients like folic acid, phosphorus, and choline which aid in proper blood function. If you are concerned about keeping your blood detoxified, consider purchasing a multivitamin specifically formulated for blood detoxification. Along with a balanced diet and exercise, your body will take care of the rest on its own.
