The Malt-O-Meal brand of hot cereal provides important minerals, such as iron, folic acid and calcium, as well as additional B vitamins that help promote healthy digestion. With only a few minutes of preparation, a piping hot bowl of Malt-O-Meal cereal can be ready to eat for a satisfying breakfast. Follow the manufacturer instructions to make one serving or a whole pot of hot Malt-O-Meal cereal to start the day.

Measure water for the amount of Malt-O-Meal you wish to make. Measure 1 cup of water to make one serving, 1 2/3 cups of water to make two servings and 3 1/4 cups of water to make four servings. Pour the water into the saucepan.

Add salt to the water, if you desire. Add 1/8 tsp. of salt for one serving, 1/4 tsp. of salt for two servings and 1/2 tsp. of salt for four servings.

Reduce the heat to medium and sprinkle Malt-O-Meal over the water. Add 3 tbsp. Malt-O-Meal for one serving, 1/3 cup Malt-O-Meal for two servings and 2/3 cup Malt-O-Meal for four servings.

Stir the ingredients well and bring the ingredients back to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low.

Cook the ingredients and stir constantly for two to three minutes.

Remove the saucepan from the heat after the cereal thickens.

Pour the Malt-O-Meal into bowls and serve it with milk and if desired, sugar and fresh fruit.

Tips

  • You can cook Malt-O-Meal in the microwave. Measure and pour all the ingredients into a microwave-safe dish. Microwave the ingredients for one minute on high and then stir. Microwave the ingredients for about two minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until the cereal thickens. Watch the cooking process carefully because the Malt-O-Meal can bubble over easily. Remove the cereal and let it stand for about five minutes before serving. Consider replacing half the cooking water with milk to make the Malt-O-Meal cereal richer.
