Cucumber extract has many uses in the skincare industry; it is used in skincare applications for its softening, soothing, astringent and hydrating properties and is found in many commercial skin preparations. Cucumber extract is rich in amino and organic acids. Amino acids can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars and stretch marks. Making your own cucumber extract is fulfilling and the resultant extract can be used to make your own homemade skin remedies.
Chop a cucumber into 1/4 inch pieces, leaving the peel on.
Pulse in blender on medium speed until liquefied.
Lay the cheesecloth in the mesh strainer, and set the strainer in a bowl to catch the extract. Pour the liquefied cucumber through the cheesecloth and strainer. The liquid extracted from the cucumber through this process is cucumber extract.
Funnel the extract into the jar. Tighten lid. Store the liquid in an airtight container in the refrigerator until used. Use within 30 days.
Tip
This extract can be added to beauty preparations such as masques, clarifiers or balms, or it can be used on its own.
Warning
Use caution when handling a knife. If redness occurs during use, discontinue use. Must be stored in refrigerator to prevent souring.
