Once you make frosting from scratch you will never want to buy the stuff in the store again. You can do so many things with homemade frosting. Choose your own color, or add fruit, candy or nuts for different textures. You can add different flavors using flavor oils which are readily available in your local grocery store's baking department.

Step 1

Place the butter into a large bowl. Using an electric mixer, whip until smooth and creamy.

Add the milk and vanilla extract to the butter and whip again for about 2 minutes or until the milk and vanilla have been well incorporated.

Add half of the confectioner's sugar and mix well. Add the remaining sugar and mix again until the frosting is completely smooth.
