How to Make Coffee Dye

By Andrea Griffith

Many women and men color their hair. However, hair dye is neither money-friendly nor earth-friendly. If you're looking for an inexpensive and "green" alternative to hair dye, there is a solution: coffee. Coffee can be used to make a hair dye that will not only color your hair dark brown, but will also condition your hair. This personal brand of hair dye will save you money and help you stay on the right course towards greener living.

Save money (and help save the earth) using eco-friendly coffee hair dye.

Step 1

Make one cup of black coffee as normal. When finished, place the coffee into the refrigerator to chill.

Step 2

Mix the 2 cups of leave-in conditioner with the 2 tbsp. of ground coffee and the cold brewed coffee in a bowl, stirring well with the spoon.

Step 3

Massage the mixture into your dry hair as you would any "regular" hair dye. Leave it in for one hour or as long as you see fit.

Step 4

Rinse out the dye with warm water.
