A mudslide is a frosty, chocolate-and coffee-flavored cocktail. Kahlua is often used to give the drink its coffee flavor and boost its alcoholic content, but you don’t need to limit yourself — you can make mudslides easily at home with ingredients you have on hand. This recipe produces a virgin coffee-and-chocolate flavored drink that is still decadent, even without the alcohol. The recipe is adapted from one by Drinks Mixer.

Replace the chocolate syrup with dark chocolate or white chocolate syrup for a twist on the basic mudslide.

Sprinkle grated nutmeg or ground cinnamon on the whipped cream for a spiced version. For something even more adventurous, add 2 to 4 teaspoons of ground cinnamon or ginger powder to the milk before blending.

For a nuttier flavor, replace the hazelnut syrup with a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of a chocolate-hazelnut spread.

Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract for a richer-flavored mudslide drink. Similarly, replace half of the milk with heavy cream.
