The Bahama Mama, a tropical, rum-based cocktail, has quite a few ingredients. Some say this delicious fruity beverage actually originated in the Bahamas, while others believe it was simply made to invoke the spirit of the Bahamas. There are two schools of thought in terms of Bahama Mama recipes: one insists it should include coffee liqueur and one doesn’t. Try both variations and see which is your favorite.
- 1 ounce gold rum
- 1/2 ounce coffee liqueur
- 1/2 ounce coconut rum
- 2 ounces pineapple juice
- 2 ounces orange juice
If you’d prefer a Bahama Mama without coffee liqueur, simply substitute an ounce of dark rum for the coffee liqueur.
Gold rum is an amber rum that falls between light and dark rum in
terms of taste. Gold rum is aged in wooden barrels and adds a richertaste to a Bahama Mama. If you can’t find gold rum, substitute dark rumover light in your cocktail.
- Add a splash of grenadine to the bottom of a Collins glass.
- Fill the glass with ice.
- Add the rums and liqueurs to the glass, then follow with the pineapple and orange juice.
- Finish with another splash of grenadine on the top of the cocktail and serve.
Add a garnish and increase the fruitiness by adding sliced pineapple and oranges to your Bahama Mama cocktail.
