There are a couple of ways to lighten the color of your hair without using hair dye. Lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide are two products that can lighten hair. These coloring methods work best with dirty blond or light brown hair. Since lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide can dry out the hair, it's important to use a deep conditioning treatment at night.
Lemon Juice
Pour 1 qt. water into a spray bottle.
Squeeze the juice from 2 lemons into the water bottle.
Close the bottle, and shake it up.
Spray the mixture onto your hair. Make sure your hair is soaked before you stop spraying.
Go out into the sunlight immediately, and let your hair dry out there. The sunlight helps to activate the effects of the lemon juice.
Hydrogen Peroxide
Pour the contents of a bottle of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide into a spray bottle.
Spray the peroxide onto your hair until it is damp.
Run a comb through your hair to make sure the peroxide is spread through your hair.
Shampoo your hair if you can't stand the smell of the peroxide. If you don't mind it, sit out in the sun until your hair dries to further speed the lightening effect of the peroxide.
