Coconut oil is rich in fats that are attracted to hair proteins, the oils can actually penetrate the hair shaft to the cortex, reducing protein loss! Studies have shown that coconut oil can penetrate up to 90%, followed by olive oil at 25%. No other natural oil can compare. Coconut oil will also smooth , and coat the outer protective covering of the hair, which helps to protect against heat and styling damage as well as frizz and flyaways. Doing this easy hair treatment will leave you with softer, shinier, healthier hair, which will be noticable after one treatment.

Things You'll Need

It is very important that you use a high quality oil. It should be Extra Virgin Coconut Oil! Expeller pressed does not have the same benefits. I like to use Garden of Life, or Tropical Traditions. If your house is cooler then 75 degrees your oil will be hard. It will melt in your hands.

If you have long hair you will need about 2 Tablespoons, use less depending on the length of your hair. Apply the oil to your hair by rubbing it in softly. Pay special attention to your ends. Coconut oil is also used to treat dry scalp, and dandruff. It is very nourishing to your roots, and scalp. So if you want go ahead and rub it into your scalp.

Wash your hands and get your blow dryer. Put your blow dryer on the lowest heat, and speed setting. Blow dry your hair for a few minutes. The heat will help the oil penetrate. When your hair is nice and warm put your hair up in a tight bun. If I’m not in a hurry I will sleep with the oil in my hair. Just make sure you put on an old pillow case or a towel over your pillow case. If you don’t have time to do that then just skip this step. Jump in the shower. I always put a shower cap on and wait till the very end of the shower to wash my hair. The shower cap will warm up your hair for more penetration of the oil. When you do wash your hair make sure you wash it good. You might want to wash your scalp twice. I noticed a difference after one treatment. Try and do this a few times a week. You will have softer, shinier, healthier hair. You will also notice less frizz, and your curls will hold together better.

  • I have really long hair one thing that really helps keep my hair from getting dry is only shampooing the top of my head. When I rinse out the shampoo it goes through the rest of my hair and cleans it. It really makes a difference.

  • Unless you have really oily hair your hair only needs to be washed every other day.
