How to Give a High and Tight Haircut. If you're in the military you're familiar with the high and tight haircut: a haircut with a crew cut length on top and shaved on the sides and back. But whether you're in the military or just looking for a change, keeping your hair this short gets expensive. So it's a great idea to learn to do this yourself so you can save you and your friends some cash.
Use the lowest setting on your clippers for trimming the bottom of your hair. This brings the clippers in tight for an almost shaved look. For the top part of your hair, you want to use a high or the highest setting. This keeps it at a crew cut length.
Start at the base of your neck and go up to about 1 to 2 inches above the top part of the ear. Repeat this process until you have gone completely around your head.
Put the clippers at a slight tilt to get rid of the ridge between the high and tight area of your cut. Keep the angle straight as you take the clippers horizontally around your head. Start from the hairline at your face and go back. Repeat this process until the shaved area fades into the top.
Turn your clippers to a high or the highest setting to cut the top. Start at the middle, between your face and the back of your head. Place the clippers against the tight part of your hair and go up to the top of your head. From the crown of your head, take the clippers and clip vertically to your forehead.
Continue to clip the top of your hair going vertically from the back to the front. Repeat this process until the top is all the same length.
