Oily skin is more susceptible to acne eruptions and large pores. To keep pimples away from the eye area, you must take proper care of oily skin. Although oily skin has a greasy and unclean look, the excess oil also helps with aging because oily skin is less likely to wrinkle than dry or normal skin. Despite the benefits, getting rid of oily skin near the eyes helps give your face a healthy and clean appearance.

Pour 1 quart of water into a pot. Bring the water to a boil, then turn off the heat.

Stand over the pot about 5 inches away. Remain in this position for up to 10 minutes. The steam opens pores and softens hardened oil so it flows out. Give yourself a steam facial once or twice a week to get rid of excess skin oil.

Put a quarter size of cleanser formulated for oily skin into your hand. Massage the cleanser into your face for 30 seconds to one minute. Rinse your face with warm or lukewarm water.

Pour an astringent for oily skin onto a cotton ball. (Astringents remove excess skin oil.) Wipe the cotton ball over your face — especially the area around your eyes. Do not get astringent into your eyes. Let the astringent dry. Alternatives to over-the-counter astringents include vinegar, witch hazel and lemon juice.

Tip

Do not apply a moisturizer. The oil helps keep moisture in the skin.
