Big, obvious pimples are a nuisance and everyone has experienced them at some point in their lives. They are brought on by stress, poor eating habits, oily skin, wearing too much makeup without properly cleansing the pores or medical issues such as hormone imbalance. Your natural oils, dead skin and dirt lodge themselves into a pore and cause inflammation of that pore and can even inflame the pores around it, causing a big pimple. You can get rid of a big pimple by lessening the swelling and treating it with care so you don't replace the big pimple with a big scar.
Reducing The Pimple
Wash your face gently with a facial cleanser that contains salicylic acid, an ingredient that helps treat acne and clean the pores. Rub your face with the cleanser for about thirty seconds and rinse thoroughly. Don't use regular soap to wash your face.
Dab some acne astringent on a cotton ball and gently hold it on your pimple for about thirty seconds. Don't press too hard, just gently hold it there and you feel it start to tingle. This is the astringent getting rid of the debris clogging your pores.
Apply some acne mask liberally to the pimple so that it is completely covered. It is best to do this before bed so the mask can work overnight. If you don't have an acne mask, you can crush up an aspirin, add a couple drops of water to form a paste and apply it thickly to your pimple.
Rinse off the mask or aspirin with warm water after at least thirty minutes to give it enough time to work. You might get a tingling or throbbing sensation on your pimple--this is normal. Follow with a couple splashes of cold water to seal the pore. You can apply aloe to soothe your skin if it feels irritated.
If you are about to go out and you want the redness and swelling reduced even more, you can hold an ice cube or an ice pack on your pimple for a few minutes. Avoid putting any makeup on your pimple as this will irritate it but if you feel you need must, just make sure you wash it off later with the facial cleanser.
Toothpaste works in place of the aspirin or acne mask--just make sure its not the gel kind.
