Cooking potatoes in a pressure cooker takes only a short time and requires minimum monitoring. In a few steps, you’ll be cooking potatoes in your pressure cooker whenever you want. The ease of the pressure cooker makes a staple food like the potato just as simple to make as it is to eat.


Boil water in the pressure cooker. Use 1/2 cup of water for every five minutes that the potatoes need to be in the pressure cooker. For example, a cup of new whole potatoes takes five minutes, and 3-inch cubed potatoes take 12 minutes.

Place the potatoes on the steaming basket and close the lid of the pressure cooker.

Remove the cooker from the stove when the potatoes have been pressure-cooked for their allotted time. Reduce the pressure on the pressure cooker via the quick release method if you had cut up your potatoes. Use the natural release for whole potatoes.
